Blue Marlin Beach Resort is owned and managed by a Belizean family since October 1987.
South Water Caye, a 15-acre semi-private island less than one mile in length and 160 yards at its widest point, is rated by Rough Guides as “one of the most beautiful and exclusive islands in Belize”.
Historically, shallow wells were discovered on the island and the name was derived after local fishermen and sailors traversing the southern waters made it their fresh-water stop.
In the 1960s, a Belizean family from Dangriga purchased a 5-acre parcel of the island and slowly developed it into a retreat for summer vacations. As tourism developed in Belize in the 1980's, the family decided to share theircherished corner of the globe with visitors seeking a small island getaway with great diving and fishing adventures. The resort name was established after a “blue marlin” was caught just in front of the island.
In October 1987 we welcomed our first guests to a 5-bedroom lodge, and in 1994 established the first PADI Dive Center in the area. Over the years, growth for this self-sufficient island resort was modest as we sought to preserve the traditional ambiance and natural beauty of the surroundings, while sustainably enhancing facilities and amenities to ensure guests’ comfort and satisfaction. As custodians of the Belize Barrier Reef flanking our eastern coastline, and the 2nd largest protected marine reserve as our neighborhood, sustainable development is paramount in order to preserve our rich natural resources.
Today Blue Marlin Resort is the premier accommodations provider on the island offering atotal of 14 units featuring dual cooling systems (fan and air-conditioning), 24 hour electricity powered by 110v ensuring warm showers, and electrical outlets to plug your devices. Resort Amenities for your added comfort includes Free Wifi in the Dining Room & Bar, and our Adventure Center offering a menu of snorkel, dive and fishing excursions.
Blue Marlin Beach Resort is still a treasured escape for past guests who have been returning to our shores for many years but who prefer to keep their little island paradise a “Best Kept Secret”.We look forward to welcoming you very soon, to your new slice of paradise in Belize!
